Those With Prior Military Training
First off let me take this opportunity to give you my heartfelt thanks for your dedication and service to this, the best country on the planet.
We at Rimfire Ranch fully understand that you received weapons training while you were in the service. However, unless you were in one of the elite services, (SEALS, Rangers, Delta and so forth) the actual hands on, live fire you typically had is simply not sufficient to survive an encounter on the street alone, without the rest of your squad. Military training is usually oriented toward group strength not you, alone. Also, your training was with you wearing an exposed weapon, probably a long gun (M-16) not a hand gun your carrying concealed on the street.
In the military you knew when you were going into harms way, had your weapons in hand and hopefully others on your team immediately at hand. On the street this will not be the case.
There are things that you did in the military that were completely appropriate in the military setting but can be totally wrong for the plain clothes civilian on the streets of Hometown, USA.
All that said, true operators know and understand that the only way to survive a deadly encounter is to practice. Regular, routine and frequent practice. The skills of self defense, be it handgun, rifle, shotgun, knife or unarmed must be practiced or the skills fade into uselessness. When was the last time you really trained on the weapon system you are now counting on to save your life when the chips are down?
